Attorneys Jim McCauley and Steve Friedman volunteered their legal services to help a group of Richmond police officers create a non-profit corporation named the Line of Duty Foundation, which aims to assist officers in need within the metro Richmond area.
The Line of Duty Foundation stemmed from a charity ride that was started 30 years ago called Bike for Blue. Offices and members of the community would ride their bicycles 118 miles up Route 1 from Richmond to Washington D.C. during National Police Week each year. The ride was in remembrance of the officers that were killed in the line of duty the previous year.
Groups of officers and community members have continued to hold fundraisers and memorial golf tournaments around the metro Richmond area ever since. Each fundraiser has had a purpose and all of the money raised has gone to help a specific officer who was either injured or needed assistance due to personal issues.
After being approached by numerous police officers seeking help for their colleagues, the group wanted to incorporate so they could continue to help fellow officers in need. They met attorney Jim McCauley through a mutual friend, Lieutenant John Garcia with the Richmond Police Department. Our attorneys assisted the group in setting up the non-profit which has taken the name the Line of Duty Foundation.
