Judith Marks led an exemplary life. Loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she raised three highly successful children and supported her husband’s successful business career. She enjoyed travel, gardening, and activities in the Hopewell, VA community, but her life was cut short in a tragic wreck on the way to her family’s cottage in the Outer Banks of North Carolina when a sewage truck crashed into the vehicle in which she was a front seat passenger. The family received a settlement in a claim for their loss of Mrs. Marks, and to memorialize her life, set up a scholarship at Longwood University in Farmville, VA.
The Judith Schoppet Marks Nursing Scholarship supports students in the nursing program at Longwood University, specifically students who find themselves needing one extra year in the program as 5th year seniors and is named in honor of the beloved wife, mother, & grandmother of the Marks family.
The purpose of this Scholarship is to recognize the dedication, commitment and perseverance of all fifth-year students pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing degree at Longwood University. The recipient(s) of the award “shall be a full-time, fifth-year University student ready to finish their undergraduate degree in Nursing from the College of Education, Health, and Human Services. The award honors all recipients who had the courage and determination to overcome adversity and self-doubt when they stumbled in their course work and continued to pursue their dream of becoming a nurse. The Donors hope this award helps ease the burden of an extra year of education.”
